I am looking for a bar for a DV feature. The director would like to use a real bar, but it may be better to find a warehouse or stage area and dress it. Please give me any ideas you may have.

You haven't told us...
In what city/country you want to shoot?
For how long?
How much aprox you are willing to spend?
Let's say (telepathic abilities), you are shooting in Los Angeles, for three weeks, on a location budget of $1,000/week.
You can't close down a real bar for that kind of money. Maybe they'll let you shoot from 4AM-4PM but then you'll have to wrap all your gear every day. And I mean really wrap it, as in "get it all out of there", otherwise the fire department won't let them open to the public.
Your best bet is a closed bar.
There are 2 or 3 in Highland Park on York Blvd. That's where I scouted and we shot most of "Reservoir Dogs". (Billy Fox, location manager)
If you say: "Highland What?" , you really need a location manager ASAP.
In low budget projects we have to be inventive. We can't use what every one else is using because these places are spoiled and cost lots of money. Where else can we find bars that no one else has used? Check out http://www.LoopNet.com a commercial real estate website with many properties for sale. Search for bars and restaurants.
As for warehouses. Well, they look like warehouses and quite often they are not cheaper than the real thing. Your best bet is Lacy Street stages, UFO stages and Glaxa studios.
Hope this helps

Marino Pascal,
I have to tell you that you ARE telepathic! It is Los Angeles, CA,it is 3 weeks, and $1000 per week. Is that your years of experience or your supernatural skills talking? Thank you for your comments. Any other ideas are highly appreciated.

Hi Juliet,
Do you know a place called Bruno's Ristorante in Culver City (?) at Venice and Centinela?
It's a 50's italian restaurant/bar with a crazy interior. It's been closed since September. Don't know whether they've torn out the interior. Try these numbers from the CA location database: (310) 397 9557, (310) 397 5703. hope this helps, Peter Orth
